Thoughts about women in the military

February 28th, 2006 by Howard | 2 Comments | Filed in Main

The photograph of the cute girl with the rifle is from Winds of Change, and before that from murdoc online.

I am sorry to say that the photo bothers me.

Granted, I grew up at a time when cashiers at the grocery store were always women, and bagboys were PERS_Zalkovsky_Iraq_lg.jpgalways boys. The mailman, fireman, policeman and GI Joe were……men. Women were to be honored, protected, cherished and loved.

Times have changed. And I welcome the changes. I never knew why women wanted to give up their higher positions to drop down to be equal to men, but it is their right. I’ve had women doctors, women dentists, women bosses, women everything. But to be honest……I still have a problem with women in the military, killing the enemy. Being killed. I try to be politically correct in this area, but I just cannot. Why? Well, the way I see it, women may want to join the military for a lot of reasons, but probably one reason isn’t the hope that she might get the chance to shoot someone. Men do. Deep down inside, most men who join, especially now during wartime, have that as one of the many reasons. Men are natural born killers. We kill the roaches, the rats; as kids we shoot our BB guns at anything that moves. Fourth of July we are sticking 17 TNT Firecrackers under the coffee can just to watch it blow sky high. We break things. We love contact sports such as boxing, hockey, rugby and football. We greet each other with a slug, or a head butt. We are animals. We are fighters and we are killers.

Women are not.

Don’t get me wrong, I know there are some women that are tough as nails and can kill with the best of us. And there are some men who are wimps. But by and large, men are better killers than women. Plus, men are not usually raped by the enemy. And men fighting side by side will develop a bond that is different than what is possible for a man and a women to develop. At least, in my mind.

When I see a photo of a guy with rifle in hand, I say “Yeah! Go get ‘em brother!”. When I see this picture of a beautiful young girl holding a gun……I instinctively want to protect her. And I wonder what sort of man would let a woman on the battlefield???

I see no reason why women cannot be in the military, doing anything else, from repairing jeeps to guiding cruise missiles. But walking about in a strange country in a battlefield holding an automatic rifle? Yeeee…..Yeah,. I got a problem with that. I really do.

But I am just some cranky guy sitting here in Florida pounding keys on my computer. What the hell do I know?

I really, really would like to see some comments from women who are in the military. And any other women or men. Educate me. Show me that I am just harboring some outdated chauvinistic romantic concept. Show me the value of young girls killing and being killed on the front lines?

“I’M Hot!” McDonald’s Coffee Lust

February 26th, 2006 by Howard | 3 Comments | Filed in Main

My friend and I stopped by the neighborhood McDonald’s this morning and among our purchases were two cups of truck radiator fluid. (My nickname for coffee at Mickey Ds.) As usual, it was 2,437 degrees hot. As usual, it tasted like boiling truck radiator fluid. However, there was caffeine present, so we drunk it. In the mc-coffee.jpgprocess, I noticed the new coffee cups. With the coffee being crotch scalding hot, the coffee cup inventors are continuously coming up with stronger cups. These though, had something different. A woman. In a red hot outfit. And you know what? She said she “was hot!”

What brilliant marketing! Not only do they get people to look at the cup, but we get it. The coffee is hot. Of course, unless you have scalded your crotch with their coffee before, you won’t realize that they mean super duper nuclear hot. But hey, at least you’ve been warned, and that’s all the attorneys want.
You know, they could have designed the cups with red hot peppers. Or flames up the side. But as for my friend and I, we like the hot girl.

British humor, or, well, maybe not…..

Build your very own powered model aircraft

I’m not sure if this is genius, really cool, or just sick. Lots of things with the British are like that, you know?

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Saying the nation is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that would “startle” most Americans, President Bush on Monday outlined his energy proposals to help wean the country off foreign oil.

Damn. I sure hope this big government big business former oil man ain’t lying to us. Wouldn’t that be the cats meow?
