My wife and I have purchased several Dell computers recently, and gave one to her parents. After six months of very, very little use, the hard drive crashed. Just crashed. Made this clicking sound, and the startup could not detect it. I checked the set up, I even yanked the hard drive out and reinstalled it to make sure all the connections were secure. Dead. Boat anchor. So, I called Dell Technical Support and spoke to several people in Bombay with 7-11 accents and middle America names like Sandy, John, Micky. After carefully explaining that the hard drive was deader than a possum in the middle of Biscayne Blvd, this was the “technical support” I was offered:
“Have you tried rebooting the computer?”
Gee, no, I never thought of that. You mean a dead hard drive can be revived by simply restarting the computer???
“You should try to restore your operating system using the restore feature.”
Since Dell is too damn cheap to provide restore CDs, how would I do that?
“Oh, Dell provides the restore system on your hard drive.”
Which part of ” Dead Hard Drive” don’t you comprehend?
“You may be able to obtain more technical support as well as updated drivers on our web page.”
Which part of ” Dead Hard Drive” don’t you comprehend?
“Would you like to purchase a hard drive from Dell?”
No, I just want you idiots to mail me the restore CDs that should have accompanied the computer in the first place!
“Would you like a slurpee with that?”
The final solution? No more Dells for us.
