Cryptic Bumper Sticker

Driving the same route to and from work for almost 20 years extreme boredom causes me to pay attention to everything, especially my fellow wage slaves stuck on traffic and their bumper stickers. I left the house 10 minutes early today so I was able to see cars and drivers, as well as bumper stickers that I do not normally see.

Like this unusual cryptic one:

13+13+13+D+N+B

The addition equals 39. DNB? Duns & Bradstreet?

I did find a listing for 13/13/13/D/N/B which appears to be a South American corporation. Perhaps based in Panama. However, there is a distinction between a forward slash / and a addition sign +.

Any clue?

Blue Jay Wide Receiver – Updated June 18th.

UPDATE: 06/18/2012 7:45 PM    The crazy Blue Jay was out on the backyard seeking peanuts again tonight. My wife’s arm by now is getting sore! Some of her tosses were off target, but this little guy goes after the peanut with an abandon!

This morning my wife discovered a Blue Jay with NFL wide receiver capabilities. Took me about a 120 camera shots but I got decent one of him

Happy Saturday my friends.

Illegal Aliens or Undocumented Americans?

I am not a fan of presidential executive orders. I prefer a less dictatorial process, such as congress passing legislation. Today apparently, President Obama issued an executive order that addresses a serious issue in America – illegal aliens. Not every illegal alien though, but those who:

  • Came to America before the age of 16 and are now younger than 30
  • Have no major criminal offenses
  • Have been in the country for at least five continuous years
  • Have graduated from a U.S. high school or have earned a GED
  • Or served in the military.

The President and Homeland Security stated they will defer deportation of such aliens. At least for the next two yeas.

My personal opinion is that this is nothing more than a carefully crafted re-election ploy. The only reason Obama did this was to win the election. Period,

However, despite his selfish motives behind this, I support it 100%.

Why? Because I have and continue to meet these kids every day. These are not what I would call “Illegal Aliens”. I would call most of these Undocumented Americans. These are people who for the most part did not make a decision to violate America’s laws. Their parents brought them to America. In many cases, these people were brought to America when they were babies. They have grown up knowing nothing but America. They attended American schools, participated in American society and culture, and often are about as American as one can get.

Yet, when they graduate from high school, sometimes at the very top of their class, they are stuck. They cannot obtain federal or state financial aid for college because they are not legal. They don’t have a “green card”.  They also face deportation to a country they often know absolutely nothing about!

I met a young man last year who was being deported to Columbia. He has never been there. Not since he was two. He knows no one there. He is a Miami Dolphin fan, loves hot dogs and apple pie, and in every other way is every bit as American as anyone. He loves America, and is a proud patriot. Yet, America was sending this smart talented Americanized kid to a foreign third world country all alone. Hell, he didn’t even speak the language!

I am sorry, but that is not the America I believe in. That is just plain cruel and stupid.

People on the far right will say this change in policy will just cause more illegal aliens to come here. I doubt that. I mean, our borders are being overrun as it is and I doubt it is physically impossible to increase that number.   However, if George W. Bush had built the wall along the USA/Mexican border when he had the law, had the money allocated and a Republican congress for support we would be in a different position entirely. But we can still do that.

But how can we as Americans punish someone for the sins of their parents, or punish them to prevent other people in the future from committing a crime?

In my view, we need to build a sophisticated and effective border barrier. We need to arrest those who knowingly violate American law and return them to their native land. We need to severely punish any business in America that employs illegal aliens. That will be a deterrent to illegal immigration.

But people who have grown up in America and are as American as you or I, we need to find a way to allow them to become citizens.

It is the right thing to do. It is the American thing to do.

My 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.

How to Choose a Secure Password

  1. Your password should consist of at least one letter, one number, three Klingon vowels and a barking sound.
  2. Your password should be at least 17 characters in length but no more than 17 characters in length, unless utilizing the barking sound.
  3. No portion of any previous password may be used. In some cases, you may have to enter characters from the Greek alphabet. (Unless you are Greek. Hell, it’s ALL Greek to me!)
  4. No portion of your name or identifying numbers may be used, as well as anything else even remotely associated with you, your family or a barking dog.

More Password Tips:

  • Remember, if you can figure out your password, criminals can too!
  • It is helpful to associate your random password with a song or dance or perhaps your favorite vegetarian recipe. For instance, using the third letter of each item used in your recipe to represent the letter that is three removed from it’s position in the alphabet, multiplied by your underwear size.
  • Did you really want access to that file anyway? Wouldn’t coffee and cherry pie be a much better idea?

Seeking a Word…..

STUPID:

1. lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull.
2. characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.
No, that is not the word I am looking for.
MORON:
Informal . a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment.
No, that is not it either.
IDIOT:
Informal . an utterly foolish or senseless person.
Close, but no.
I am looking for a word that describes perfectly normal people with normal or above normal intelligence, access to the World Wide Web, an educational system and plenty of other resources, but who deliberately refuse to use their brain cells.  These people are not dumb, nor unable to read or stupid or mentally challenged at all. They have an excellent brain filled to the brim with healthy brain cells. That they refuse to utilize.
It is one thing when someone is mentally challenged, in possession of a minus 90 IQ. But when a intelligent person with a sound brain take stupid actions, what do you call that? Lazy Brain?
If unused brains could be sold on ebay, Americans could solve our national debt in a month by selling everyone’s unused brains! (I’m sure the French would buy them!)
So, we need a word that means that.
I am thinking of Ass Weasel.
Ass Weasel
An otherwise person of normal intelligence and education who deliberately deactivate their critical thinking skills and thus appear for all purposes and intentions to be a flaming freaking idiot.
Yeah,. That’s it.

Catching Up

Work has kept me away from blogging a bit, so I’ll try to catch up.

  • This whole Florida voting fight is not healthy. The majority of non-citizens they are trying to purge would likely vote democrat, so this is clearly a way to impact the presidential election. Yet, Homeland Security not providing their database to Florida is clearly the same thing. Neither side is fighting for cleaner elections. At least, that is how I see it.
  • Unless you vote on a paper ballot that you can view later in a real recount, we really don’t know if the elections in America are rigged or not. Every computer system can be hacked, that is a solid fact. If Chinese hackers can break into the CIA computers, I imagine the voting computer systems are a breeze. Who knows, we may elect Daffy Duck this November!
  • The economy. I have a slightly closer insight into the economy in my job, and trust me when I say it sucks big time. People are still losing their homes, losing their jobs, struggling in a financial limbo state. No, I do not blame Obama for this, at least, not alone. It began under the Bush administration and continues. The corrupt bankers in America are to blame. And a congress that allows it to continue.
  • Chase lost $2 billion? WTF???
  • The South Florida filmed USA network television show Burn Notice returns for their sixth season tomorrow night!
  • More and more experts are realizing that a higher education system based on the 17th century model just might not be sensible for 2012. Go figure. Even more shocking, some are saying not every 18 year should go to college! Many would earn more money, have more solid careers and less debt if they finished a short term vocational program.  Electricians, Plumbers, police, fire, air traffic controllers and numerous other well paid professions do not require four to five years of sitting on your ass in college learning topics you will never use in real life. It is a myth that everyone should go to college, and a dangerous one at that.

Catch ya all later.

Noxious Weed Awareness Week

While South Florida has to content with Zombies, out in Idaho they have their own struggles.  Ada county which includes Boise, has proclaimed that June 11th through 15th is Noxious Weed Awareness Week.

Idaho Code defines noxious weeds as any plant that has the potential to threaten public health, crops, livestock, public lands, and private property.  The most common noxious weeds are Canada Thistle, Scotch Thistle, Puncturevine (goatheads), Whitetop, and Poison Hemlock.

The natives take this festive holiday seriously folks. To begin with, there will be an interpretive Noxious Weed Week display in the Ada County courthouse lobby. They provide instructions in how to identify these weeds and what to do when you run across them. Kill them. The preferred method is strangulation and yanking out of the earth with your hands. The authorities also remind citizens that if you have noxious weeds on your property and don’t kill them, they have the authority to invade your property and kill the weeds without your permission. (Not so sure constitutional experts would agree).

Geocaching for Weeds

Better yet, they have a geocaching program to encourage noxious weed education and to encourage citizens to hunt these bastard weeds down!

According to the Ada County website:

This is an interactive initiative. We encourage you to find the caches and learn about the specific weed or control method highlighted. Then if you encounter a noxious weed infestation while you are recreating on public lands in Ada County, please log the GPS coordinates and report them to us via the Web. You can email the GPS coordinates to weedandpest@adaweb.net.

You know, maybe South Florida can utilize some of these same techniques? What about a Cannibalistic Zombie Awareness Week? And maybe we need a Zombie Geocaching Program? Ya know, it couldn’t hurt!

Change Your Password

At last count I have over 50 computer passwords for use with various work and personal uses. That does not count pin numbers for debit cards, etc.

About a year ago I strengthen my passwords by adding letters and numbers to them. Along the way I began consolidating passwords. As I changed one (usually because I forgot it) I changed it to this one preferred strong password.

The one I had attached to my Linkedin account, which apparently was hacked and stolen today. At least, 6.5 million passwords were acquired by a Russian hacker-scumbag who posted them online.

So, now I’ve been searching down all those various websites, Best Buy, Amazon, online banks, you name it, to change the passwords. The hacker supposedly has usernames too so in theory they could try your username and password on other sites.

What a pain in the ass.
