It is 7:45 PM mountain time, 9:45 Eastern time, and the babies are still screaming, only now louder, if that is actually possible. Southwest flight 2770 from Denver to Fort Lauderdale. I think we are somewhere over Texas now, but it is dark outside and of course, crammed into this aluminum narrow tube one can’t take a deep breath without becoming intimate with our seatmates. Oh, I long for the days of old, when one actually sat in a real seat and had real forks and spoons and actual hot meals. One time 25 years ago I got bumped to first class and enjoyed steak and mashed potatoes. Again, with real silverware. That was good times, let me tell you.
Now they give you one peanut, you take one suck on it and pass it to your seatmate. I hope after it makes it to the back of the plane they don’t just wash it off and start again. You can still get watered down coke. Everything else costs at least $5 bucks. Thankfully, my dear sister-n-law packed my backpack with an apple and some other goodies so I have been doing well.
Wifi is $8 bucks. I have never blogged from 41,000 feet so thought this would be cool. I’m not sure if it will be $8 dollar cool, but we will see.
The worse part for me is I have mild ADD. So, sitting or even standing still is a real effort. Sitting in a tube for four hours is torture. I would rather have a root canal. Seriously, if they invented a type of dental teleportation device where you had a one hour root canal and when you got up from the chair after spitting into that tiny cup you were at your destination, I would be the first to sign up. A one hour root canal versus 4 hours in a tube? No contest.
Right now we are hitting some turbulence but that does not bother me anymore. I experienced a religious experience several years ago that cured me of my fear of flying. I actually like turbulence now.
But smelling someone else’s cough drops and hearing the sneezing and coughing I figured I’ll be in the hospital in a couple of days. My nose is already running.
Well, this is my 41,000 foot high blog. Not sure if I got my $8 dollars worth.
Peace out people.

I worked at Northwest Airlines at night as a cleaner in the late 60′s when I went to college. Many flights would come in at midnight or later and usually always had extra steak dinners on board which translated to a feast for us (we were always there before the caterer). I never understood the jokes about airline food at the time. I thought it was great. As for airline food today, olvide te fue, if my spanish is accurate.
Free steak dinners, not a bad bonus!
