Yep. Got me. On a wide four lane highway with a huge median strip with palm trees in the middle, at 2:45 in the hot afternoon, I was nailed for the ungodly crime of supposedly driving 49 MPH in a 35 zone. I had just left a red light, so I really don’t think I had enough time to get up to 49, not with a stick shift truck, but you know, traveling 14 miles over the legally reduced speed limit of 35 on a huge, wide, four lane highway sounds a whole lot worse than going 9 miles over…..which is more than likely what I was doing.
And here I was, taking the day off, snoozing on the couch, doing nothing. Just a nothing day to wind down, relax. Then stupidly, I thought I would go to Publix to pick up a prescription for my wife. You know, show that I did something productive on my day off.
Is $162.50 productive enough, hon?
I politely engaged the officer in a discussion while he wrote out my ticket. About how the city collects over $1.3 million from traffic fines that go to the general fund, and that I bet he would rather be doing something more police-like than standing in 95 degree heat handing out tickets.
You know, he thanked me, and told me I was right, and that it was so hot his freaking nuts were sweating. Seriously, that’s what he said.
The photo to the left is not him, but his senior partner who got to stand in the shade with the radar gun, while my guy had the pleasure of stepping out into the road and pulling over two to three cars at a time. Give the guy credit, he had it down to a science. In less than three minutes I was on my way.
Of course, there is no way I will pay $162.50. Only an idiot would. I will either pay some approved driving school a reduced amount to allow me to log online and complete the retarded Internet driving school while watching one of my favorite movies. Or, I’ll pay $79 to a law firm specializing in getting the ticket tossed out without any other fees or points.
A third option is to fight the ticket myself, but morally I have a problem with that, in that I know I was going over 35 MPH. I mean, who wasn’t???? Who goes 35 MPH in South Florida on a four lane highway??? Besides, if I go to court I will wind up going on a rant about the fact that virtually all the highways in Pembroke Pines are 35 MPH, and let’s not talk about the highway robbery of their stupid red light camera. My wife will have to come bail me out, and that would probably piss her off.
So, I’ll let the law firm do their underhanded stuff to save me about a hundred dollars, and just move on with life.
Although I have to wonder how much crime was occurring during the couple of hours these police officers were standing on the road pulling in thousands of dollars for the city officials. I can tell you what was reported in the previous week, according to Pembroke Pines Crime Stoppers. I wonder if we would have as much crime in Pembroke Pines if the city officials had our fine police department work as aggressively to catch criminals as they do having them rake in dollars in road side “robberies” such as these.
Here is the list. Peace out people.
