176 IPhone Apps – Not the Maximum!

March 1st, 2010 by Howard | Filed under IPhone Tips.

I have spoken previously about my appdiction. (Inability to stop downloading apps for the IPhone.) This evening I faced another reminder of my condition. There are eleven screens, or pages of apps on the IPhone 3Gs that I own. That is 16 apps per page times 11 = 176 apps, plus the four you place on the bottom of the first, main page. That’s 180 total. Now, most sane human beings would say that 180 apps is sufficient. Those people would not be suffering from Appdiction.

Me? I have over 200 apps.

OK, if I have over 200 apps and the IPhone holds 180, then how is that possible?

Thankfully, I discovered the truth this evening. The IPhone can hold more than 180 apps!!!! It just can’t display more than 180.

So, how does that work then? Easy.

First, connect your IPhone and boot up Itunes 9. Click on your device, and then the application tab. This is the app manager, which pretty much sucks in my book, but it is slightly better than being smacked in the eyeball with the back of a spoon. This consists of three parts. (Itunes, not the spoon.) The vertical list of all of your apps on the left, and then the display of your pages on the right. The middle displays the apps on the page you have clicked on the right. Click on the page 2, you see the apps on page 2. Click on page 11, you see the apps on page 11.

Using the up/down keys, you can move up or down the pages. When you get to the last page, page number eleven, continue down and you will barely make out a 12th or 13th page.  Can you make it out in this photo?

Great, proof that the apps are still on your IPhone, but if they are not displaying on your device, how can you load them?

Observe below:

Pick up your IPhone. Aha Radio was one of the apps on the 12th page. Pressing the “Home” button twice pops up the IPhone spotlight, otherwise known as a search function. Type in “Aha” and up pops Aha Radio.

Now you click on it, and it loads.

The only drawback is that you have to know what apps you have on your device that you can’t see! You can see them in Itunes, by clicking on the 12th page, the apps will display in the center part of the screen of ITunes 9. So, write down those aps so you can load them if you need to.

However, it probably is wiser to delete enough apps so that you are down to 180 total apps. I know, for someone suffering from severe appdiction, that is difficult.Perhaps a 12 step group would help. Hey, wait a minute, I betcha there’s an app for that!!!

Yeah! I see eight apps involving 12 step groups! Now I just need to memorize it since it will be landing on my 14th page…….

OK, How did I do with this post?

Perhaps iPhone 4.0 OS this summer will solve this problem, and we’ll get 30 pages of apps?
