Government Efficiency

Never thought I would write this. I visited one of the millions of bureaucratic offices of the State of Florida today, and I am still stunned by what happened,.

I was applying for a Concealed Weapons Permit with the state. Their office is in downtown Miami. I planned a half day for the task. What happened?

I was in and out in 14 minutes!!! I experienced the most efficient service ever. I mean, ever.

To start with, the building included numerous governmental offices, so they went the extra mile to post signs directing the CWP people to the correct office.

Apparently this office receives more visitors than any other.

I announced myself to the woman behind the window when I arrived. My butt did not have sufficient time to fully expand into the plastic chair when my name was called.

Inside I found a large clean efficient looking office with happy people working. The one helping me looked like one of the Golden Girls but older, with bright red lipstick on wrinkled lips, but a hearty laugh and excitement in her eyes. She was a happy and very efficient person, even thought she typed with just one finger. In a matter of a moment or so my application had been entered, and she was taking my photograph, Shortly after that my fingerprints were scanned. She seem to really enjoy that part, being quite partial to my hands. No ink and cardboard fingerprint cards, but a cool computer with a scanning screen that captured all of my fingerprints.

I was in and out in fourteen minutes! Application entered, forms copied, photo taken and finger printed in 14 minutes!!!! By a staff that although eccentric, were very happy, cheerful and efficient.

Holy crap, what is this world coming to?

I also had to renew my driver license. Everyone told me I had to bring originals of my birth certificate, utility bills, marriage license and that it was a huge pain! I checked online and for some reason I was allowed to renew online, In a matter of five minutes I entered my information, paid $48 bucks and was done! My renewed driver license is in the mail. What the????

If this keeps up, I may have to take back a lot of my complaints and negative comments I’ve made about the inept government bureaucrats!!!
