Another Highway Scam – I-95 “Express Lanes”

The Sun-Sentinel reports today that the State of Florida has developed yet another new concept for ripping cash from driver’s pockets on the pretense of improving traffic flow. These are the same thieves that came up with the HOV I-95 Cloverleaf Overpass. Yeah, that one lane of I-95 that shoots skyward over the north dade interchange. There was one fatal flaw with this concept = no way for the state and county to grab your money! So, now these mobsters are developing an express lane from I-395 north to about Broward Blvd. It will cost you to ride in that lane. And get this, the cost is variable depending on the crooked state’s need for cash, er, I mean the traffic flow. Some times it will be as high as $6.00.

Why are these bureaucrats doing this? The pretense is to improve traffic flow. Yeah. Right. And I have a trained Weasel who can sing Opera while gargling Diet Coke. Our government is addicted to cash. At every opportunity they are taking our money. Be it real estate property tax, county taxes, building permits, traffic fines, you name it. And this is just another attempt to get money.

If they really wanted to improve traffic flow they would eliminate all tolls everywhere. That one move alone would dramatically improve traffic flow throughout the tri-county area. The mere fact that thousands of cars must stop to either pay a toll or drive slowly through sunpass lanes is a major cause of our traffic problems. That, and those nitwits constantly working on the highways.

How about this thought? Mass transit. No, I mean real mass transit like real cities. The one construction project I would like to see is them putting a train or mono-rail in the middle of I-95. And every other roadway. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that building more roads, expanding the roads we have, is not the solution.

Then again, our state and county bureaucrats have never been mistaken for rocket scientists….
