This is a crummy photo I snagged off of the TV with my iphone, but it shows a woman skydiver just as she flings herself out a military airplane. And then flashing under her on the screen is the message “Do not Attempt”.
And I am thinking, what the hell? Why did they do that? Do not attempt what? The possibilities are:
1. Americans are actually stupid enough to view a commercial with people parachuting out of a plane and attempt to do it, but without parachutes?This gets the company off the hook?
2. The person is jumping out of a plane with a parachute. They don’t want anyone else doing that?
3. Somehow this gets them off the hook if some idiot, probably just finishing snorting a cup of cinnamon or hand sanitizer, steals a military aircraft and jumps out the back and lands on his ass in a pig pen whereupon they chew his nuts off?
4. The entire world is full of beings that are retarded?
I am fairly certain that #4 applies.

“4. The entire world is full of beings that are retarded?” Yes. They are called attorneys and, unfortunately seem to be running the world.
Back in the dark ages when I was in advertising, I had a lot of run-ins with various attorneys trying desperately to be useful. My favorite was the attorney for CBS who was responsible for reviewing the advertising I was doing for Miles Laboratories (One-A-Day Vitamins). Back in the late ’70s we were introducing a new line of higher than RDA vitamins and network guy kept vetoing any of our scripts that said anything at all about energy, vitality, health, any claim that the vitamins were good for you or made you feel better. We finally got some bland scrips okayed and produced the spots. I took them in for final network approval and the lawyer turned them down because–why???–the music was too “energetic”. Got them through finally, but had to go to his boss and then his boss.
Thanks Bob for that interesting story. Attorneys are responsible one way or another for much of this silliness.
#4!!!! I have so much to say about this and so little time. However I will give you two stories about how stupid the people are:
1. While waiting for my burger at five guys one day, a mother asked one of the employees to not cook the french fries as much so that it wouldnt be so hot for her kid.
As the parent, wait for it to cool down before giving it to your kid. (as a parent thats what i do)
2. I was in Orlando this weekend and went to ghirardelli to get a chocolate shake. I saw a picture inside of a milk chocolate square with peanut butter in the middle. I asked where they were and the cashier told me the discontinued them. The reason? People were getting them confused with the orange and caramel ones. so they would grab the peanut butter one, bring it home and eat them.
to me, thats like the whole diet coke and white coke can thing. LOOK AND READ THE FREAKIN LABEL!!!!!!
